Why data-driven decision making is important

This working model offers advantages both at a personal and professional level. Some of the reasons are:

  1. Accuracy and objectivity: they avoid erroneous decisions and generate more objectivity and less influence of biases.

  2. Optimization of resources: they allow resources (time, money, effort) to be used more efficiently.

  3. Competitive advantage: they make it easier to adapt to the market and offer what customers really need.

  4. Continuous improvement: they are key to learning from results and adjusting strategies to constantly improve.

  5. Risk reduction: helping to anticipate problems and make informed decisions to mitigate risks.

Making data-driven decisions improves accuracy, optimizes resources and reduces risk and bias.

What is datos.gob.es?

Datos.gob.es is a consolidated platform within the Aporta initiative, launched in 2009 by the Ministry for Digital Transformation and the Civil Service and, through Red.es. It organizes and manages the National Catalogue of Open Data, offering a single access point to the datasets of the different levels of administration (General, Autonomous, Local, Universities, etc.).

This platform acts as a meeting point between the administrations, companies and citizens that form part of the open data ecosystem in Spain. Among its utilities we find both, serving as a location and entry point to the available data, as well as a showcase for applications and business models that are working with open data.

Datos.gob.es: get to know the Platform

You can find more than 91,000 datasets, grouped according to the field to which they belong, such as science and technology, environment, health or tourism, among others. In addition, these data can be filtered by variables such as file type or update frequency.

It also has a section of forms, from which you can access the different functionalities provided by the initiative. These forms are divided into:

  1. Data availability: if you cannot find the data you need, a form facilitates the search or invites you to propose the publication of new reusable datasets. This proposal is sent to the Managing Authority and will also be published in the ‘Data availability’ section where it can be followed up.

  2. Initiatives: if you know of any open data initiative that does not appear on the ‘Map of initiatives’, use this form to register it so that it can be shown along with the rest. This form seeks to promote collective intelligence, encouraging the participation of the entire population.

  3. Applications: reports on an application developed based on open data from public bodies. The application will be published in the IMPACT section once it has been reviewed by the datos.gob.es team.

  4. Reusing companies: reports on companies that use open data from the public sector as raw material. The company will be included in the IMPACT section once it has been reviewed by the datos.gob.es team.

  5. Suggestions and improvements: communicate suggestions or improvements to the datos.gob.es platform. From this form, you can also request help in relation to your user account or notify us of incidents detected on the platform.

The public data available on datos.gob.es provides SMEs with access to valuable, accurate and up-to-date information that allows them to manage their business efficiently, improve their competitiveness and minimize risks.
